The Artisan Cooperative of the High Land (CATTA-COOP, INC.) and the Autonomous Municipality of Jayuya invite you to the celebration of the 7th TAÍNO-INDIGENOUS GATHERING. This year we expect a visit from Taíno Sisters and Brothers of the Diaspora, at a good time.

PURPOSE: Honoring Our “Ancestral Legacy”

DATE: August 13 & 14, 2011

PLACE: Elpidio Collazo (Maboití) Center of Art & Culture,
formerly known as CEDETRA,
Bo. Coabey, Carr. 144 – Km. 9.3,
Jayuya, Boriké (aka Puerto Rico)

PROGRAMMED ACTIVITIES:

* Thursday & Friday, August 11 & 12
– Preparation of the Batey for Ceremony by the Taíno People

* Saturday, August 13
– 6:00 a.m.
– Sunrise Ceremony & Lighting of the Flame of Love
by the Taíno People
– 7:00 a.m.
– Breakfast for the Workers
(Visitors can buy breakfast in the designated area)
– 9:00 a.m. and onwards
– Presentation of the Sacred “Matukos” (Staffs)
and Peace & Dignity Run 2011 Boriké
– 10:00 a.m. and onwards
– Artisan Fair
– Art Exhibition by “Taller de Arte Coayuco”
entitled “Agüeybana el Bravo” (Agüeybana the Brave)
– Areyto with Dance, Music, Singing, Conferences, Workshops,
Batey Game, etc.
– 2:00 p.m.
– Food for the Workers
(Visitors can buy food in the designated area)
– Vigil during the Night in the Ceremonial Areas

* Sunday, August 14
– 6:00 a.m.
– Sunrise Ceremony by the Taíno People
– 7:00 a.m.
– Breakfast for the Workers
(Visitors can buy breakfast in the designated area)
– 10:00 a.m. and onwards
– Artisan Fair
– Art Exhibition by “Taller de Arte Coayuco”
entitled “Agüeybana el Bravo” (Agüeybana the Brave)
– Areyto with Dance, Music, Singing, Conferences, Workshops,
Batey Game, etc.
– 2:00 p.m.
– Food for the Workers
(Visitors can buy food in the designated area)
– 3:00 p.m.
– Presentation of the Elpidio Collazo (Maboití) Prize
to the distinguished Dedicated Artisan Ariel Soto
– 6:00 p.m.
– “GUATIAO” (Making Relations) Ceremony and Exchanging of Gifts
– The activities end with the Closing Ceremony in the Batey.

The Activity will take place in the Area of the Bateyes.

There will be a Fire Ceremony (Guatú), Dance, Playing of the Drum, Cultural Educative Workshops for little ones and big….FREE ADMISSION!

RULES:

NO Coolers with Alcohol / NO Alcohol / NO Drugs.

Spaces for camping are available (please call to confirm and reserve).

Workers will be provided food in the morning and the afternoon.

The evening meal will be made through the contributions of all to prepare a stew with “vianda” (victuals). IT IS A POTLUCK AMONG ALL (BRING RICE, MEAT, “SOFRITO”, “ADOBO”, BREAD, ETC.).

Donations are accepted and appreciated, and volunteers are welcome.

CLEAN-UP IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERYONE.
